Rubberized Asphalt Concrete (RAC)
Rubberized asphalt concrete (commonly known as RAC) is a road paving material made by blending ground-up recycled tires with asphalt to produce a binder which is then mixed with conventional aggregate materials. This mix is then placed and compacted into a road surface.
PDF Comparison of Mix Design Methods for Rubberized Asphalt ...
Figure 8 shows a comparison of the optimum asphalt contents selected for each mix design. It can be seen that adding rubber to the mixtures increases the optimum asphalt content, regardless of mix design method. In general, there appears to be a variation of ± 0.5 percent optimum asphalt content between the mix design
Rubberized Hot Mix Asphalt - Graniterock
Measured by NIOSH Method 7500, DCM Science Labs, Wheat Ridge, Colorado; HAZARD IDENTIFICATION Overview: Rubberized hot mix asphalt (HMA) is a mixture aggregate, crumb rubber, asphalt binder, and other proprietary ingredients. When hot, it may burn skin and/or emits fumes containing hydrogen sulfide.

Rubberized asphalt is also called "ground tire rubber" (GTR) asphalt. It's a chemically reacted mix of liquid asphalt binder with a maximum of 10% of the asphalt cement (AC) coming from ground tire rubber from reclaimed tires per our Specification 820.
PDF Rubberized Asphalt
Rubberized Asphalt •Plant Mix process - rubber component added to the mix in the drum -Not reacted in 1990s, large particle, too absorptive (2-3% of mix) -New technologies - Rubber can be pre-reacted or pre-blended with modifiers or ―compatibilizers‖. -30 minus rubber, ~10%of binder (0.5% of mix)
PDF Hot Mix Asphalts 101 - New Jersey
Asphalt Rubber Methods of adding rubber to asphalt - Wet Process - rubber is added to the liquid asphalt binder before being mixed at the hot mix asphalt plant (i.e., rubber is wet before mixing) - Dry Process - rubber is added at the same time the asphalt and aggregate are mixed (i.e., rubber is dry before mixing)
The Magic of Rubberized Asphalt - Equipment World
The classic method, specified by ASTM D6114, is called asphalt rubber, or the Arizona method. It is a wet process. Recycled tire rubber is added at close to 20 percent by weight of the liquid AC.
PDF In the late 1800's many states tried Tire Rubber - Asphalt
Wet Method - Requires thorough mixing of the crumb rubber in hot asphalt cement and holding the resulting blend at temperatures (375°F to 450°F) for a designated minimum period of time (typically 45 minutes) to permit an interaction between the crumb rubber and asphalt. - Requires special blending equipment.
Asphalt Rubber Hot Mix-Gap Graded (ARHM-GG) Overlays ...
Rubberized asphalt is a hot-mixed asphalt pavement containing crumb rubber. The crumb rubber serves as a "modifier" of the liquid asphalt. It's addition gives the liquid asphalt greater viscosity (resistance to flow) and improves other properties which resist reflective cracking and rutting, and prolong pavement life.
Rubberized asphalt - Wikipedia
Rubberized asphalt concrete (RAC), also known as asphalt rubber or just rubberized asphalt, is noise reducing pavement material that consists of regular asphalt concrete mixed with crumb rubber made from recycled tires. Asphalt rubber is the largest single market for ground rubber in the United States, consuming an estimated 220,000,000 pounds ...
